Hi Religion Unplugged readers,
Each spring, across the U.K., falcons make their homes in cathedral spires to lay eggs and raise their young. Cathedrals are a natural location for these nests, as the soaring spires mimic the setting of falcon nests in natural environments.
Some churches have long-standing traditions of welcoming the falcons to build their nests â one city in England has noted the birth of 55 chicks since 2006 â and many of the birds return to the same church across the span of years. Now, many churches entertain online audiences of millions with webcams set up to monitor the activity of nesting falcons.
In todayâs top story, U.K. contributor Angela Youngman reports on the history between falcons and cathedrals as well as how their presence enhances church life today.
